As high-achieving, success-driven orthodontists we are no strangers to hard work. It is, in fact, what got us to where we are and to the excellence we promise to our patients. Hard work and perseverance do have a deleterious impact, however, when chronic sympathetic nervous system stimulation erodes our ability to access our prefrontal cortex. We lose our ability to make educated, ingenuitive, and compassionate decisions from an empowered perspective. Your overwhelm and stress are sirens from your nervous system that you are living in a sympathetic nervous system storm. You have stepped over the Tipping Point. At this point simply “pushing through” is the worst thing you can do.
