President’s Message – March 2022

Hello, friends! 

My name is Emily Fourmy and I’m honored to be serving as the President of the SouthWestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry. I currently practice in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and have also practiced in Northwest Arkansas (Rogers and Springdale) and at the dental clinic Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. I went to dental school and residency at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis. I grew up in Fort Smith and it’s been a lot of fun to come back home and see the children of so many people I know.

If you missed the 2022 SWSPD Ski Meeting in Vail, you missed out, and we missed you! What a wonderful week we had. Many thanks to our Ski Meeting Chairman, Dr. Ryan Roberts, Julie Roberts, and Michelle Jacobi. Our awesome speakers included Cathy Jameson, Dr. LaRee Johnson, Dr. Jeannie Beachamp, Dr. Yasmi Crystal, Dr. Cavan Brunsden, and Dr. Bruce Weiner. So much knowledge was imparted, and a lot of fun was had (during lectures and on the slopes)! Many thanks to our speakers. I also want to thank our sponsors, who included Pro-Fi 20/20, Tusk Partners, Kinderkrowns, D4C Dental Brands, NuSmile, Sprig, Magnify, EPrompt, and Doctor Disability Specialists. This meeting wouldn’t be possible without these amazing sponsors! This was my first Ski Meeting and it will not be my last- SO many events were a blast. I don’t ski, and I still had so much fun! 

The 2023 Ski Meeting will be held at The Peaks Telluride in Telluride, CO, February 5-10 and registration is open. Find  more information on the SWSPD website (swspd.org). Please plan to join us for this meeting that is always a good time!

We are looking forward to the AAPD meeting in San Diego, and our first in-person SWSPD Caucus in 3 years! Please join us on Saturday, May 28 at 1:00pm if you can. We are hoping to have a zoom option as well if you can’t be there in person.

The SWSPD Summer Escape meeting will be at the Four Seasons Jackson Hole in Jackson Hole, WY, July 21-23, and we would love for y’all to join us. What a beautiful place to visit! Our speaker will be Dr. Catherine Flaitz, and she will be speaking on COVID-19 and associated pathology, along with other pathology information. For more information and to get registered, please visit swspd.org. There are a limited number of spots available for this meeting and room reservations for the Four Seasons go quickly!

I’m looking forward to working with our board over the next year. The board includes President-Elect Dr. Ben Curtis; Vice-President Dr. David Sentelle; Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Elizabeth Shick; Past President Dr. Mitchell Glass; AAPD Trustee Dr. Jeff Rhodes; CE Chairman Dr. Janell Plocheck; Ski Meeting Chairman Dr. Ryan Roberts; Missouri representative  Dr. Aaron Bumann; Texas representative Dr. Mary Fuselier; Oklahoma representative Dr. Janna McIntosh; Arkansas representative Dr. Lesley Milton; and At-Large representatives Dr. Paul Lambert and Dr. Alexandra Otto. These individuals are such a big part of what makes SWSPD so great, and I’m so thankful for them. This is the largest the board has been in a while, and I’m so glad to have some new state and at-large representatives involved!
